## HEADLINE Israeli jets entered Iranian airspace amid US warnings of a plan to assassinate Tehran's top negotiators. At the same time, Washington and Iran agreed to a one-week Hormuz de-escalation ahead of America's 250th anniversary [72][103][113].

## TODAY IN REVIEW Friday brought a sharp split-screen across the region: diplomatic progress on one side, and high escalation risk on the other. Israeli jets entered Iranian airspace from Iraq, reportedly with Pakistani escort. The New York Times linked one incursion to an attack on a plane carrying Iranian negotiators after talks in Islamabad [72][101]. US officials warned Iran that Israel planned to assassinate Foreign Minister Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Ghalibaf. Iran then censored the identities of resistance commanders attending Khamenei's funeral over security concerns [103][56][52]. An Israeli security official responded by saying Israel has the capability to eliminate targets [99].

At the same time, Trump said Iran had agreed to "virtually all" US demands and that practical goals had been achieved. The two sides also agreed to a one-week Hormuz de-escalation timed to America 250 celebrations [91][79][113]. Direct US-Iran talks were confirmed for Doha in the third week of July, covering the Islamabad MoU, Lebanon and the Strait [135]. Still, Iranian clerics and commanders took a defiant line, with an official in Sari calling for the assassination of Trump and Netanyahu, and the IRGC invoking "blood vengeance" [25][58].

The Strait of Hormuz stayed the main flashpoint. Iran's joint military command said tankers must use Tehran-approved routes or face a "forceful response", and an Ahvaz cleric threatened to sink unauthorised ships [77][31]. Washington reportedly offered $6bn in frozen funds in exchange for giving up Strait control. Iran rejected that and demanded $40bn in annual fees, while European governments considered paying transit charges to Iran and Oman [136][92][119]. Despite the threats, traffic held up, with more than 80 vessels transiting and a Qatari LNG tanker making the first visible export in a week [117][55].

## MARKET IMPACT Energy markets got mixed signals. The one-week Hormuz de-escalation and the return of transit by 80-plus vessels, including a Qatari LNG cargo, eased near-term supply fears [113][117][55]. But Iran's demand for $40bn in annual transit fees, its threats to sink unauthorised ships, and CMA CGM's warning that Hormuz charges would be "devastating" keep a strong risk premium in crude and freight rates [136][31][21]. Reports of an airspace incursion and assassination plots limit any relief rally [72][103]. Gulf FX and equities still face pressure from Bahrain's SC escalation and UAE cyber-attack disclosures [129][28]. Defence equities remain supported by France and Italy's Lebanon coalition preparations and continued IDF operations [121][40].

## TONIGHT / TOMORROW Watch whether the one-week de-escalation lasts through the weekend, or whether more Israeli airspace incursions and assassination reporting disrupt the Doha track [113][72][135]. Monitor Hormuz traffic and any Iranian move to enforce "approved routes" [77][117]. In Lebanon, the Aoun-Hezbollah standoff over the framework agreement and the timing of the French-led force are the main variables [4][112]. Overnight, further fallout from the Damascus cafe bombing and continued IDF strikes in southern Lebanon are likely [73][40].
