SITUATION OVERVIEW

Israel and its allies see it as a security deal tied to Hezbollah disarmament, but Hezbollah does not accept that framework, and tensions on the southern border continue. It is important to note that Israel is negotiating with the Lebanese government as opposed to Hezbollah, even though the government does not fully control Hezbollah’s military decisions. As a result, any agreement risks limited enforcement, since Hezbollah can reject or ignore measures without internal consensus in Lebanon.

In parallel, US strikes on Iranian air-defense and missile sites in southern Iran have raised the likelihood of further Iranian retaliation against Gulf-linked military and maritime targets, particularly around Bahrain, Kuwait, and the Strait of Hormuz.
